Youth rallying in 93
CAAAV Founders

CAAAV Organizing Asian Communities builds grassroots community power across diverse poor and working class Asian immigrant communities in New York City. We were founded in 1986 by Asian working class women alarmed by the spike of of hate violence on Asian communities and its root causes stemming from institutional racism in the United States.

Through our organizing model of base-building, leadership development, campaigns, alliances, and organizational development- we organize Asian communities to fight for institutional change and participate in a broader movement towards racial, gender, and economic justice.

at the anniversary
At the anniversary event we will honor our leaders, movement allies, and supporters who’ve helped us organize low-income Asian immigrants to fight for racial, gender, and economic justice towards systemic and institutional change.
chinatown honorees
Zhi Qin Zheng (Ms. Zheng) and Nayrin Muhith (Nayrin Apa) are two incredible tenant member leaders of CAAAV. Ms. Zheng organized her neighbors for one of the largest rent strikes in Chinatown’s history. Nayrin Apa has helped CAAAV build our base in Queensbridge Houses. Both women are critical forces to helping CAAAV build our base.
Picture The Homeless
For the past 17 years Picture the Homeless (PTH) has been a force to be reckoned with in New York City, working on campaigns addressing the root causes of homelessness while fighting and lifting up the impacts of gentrification, police violence, and quality of life laws. Their solidarity, collaboration, and support have meant so much to us, ensuring our campaigns are strong, and our people power strengthened.
Women of CAAAV
30 years of Women Who Built CAAAV - CAAAV’s legacy and history has been built by the remarkable women who built the base, developed leadership of community members, developed strategic campaigns, coordinated direct actions, showed up in solidarity for others, and built the infrastructure of the organization.
